TOMORROW NORTHFIELD
JACKALOPE
- x28-
Tomorrow Northfield Jackalope was never one to leave anything on the table. If there is a chance, she’s taking it; an opportunity, she’s
maximizing it. Compounding this positive outlook, by her very nature, she believes in believing, as all jackalopes do. A little plaque hangs
inside the door of her warren, inspiring her every time she heads out into the world. Audrey Hepburn’s words are etched into the patinated
metal, reading, “Nothing is impossible…the word itself says ‘I’m possible.’” But, while Tomorrow is an optimist, she is also a realist. So,
when it comes to such abstract ideas as luck, she gets to thinking.
“What makes a penny lucky?” she wonders. “Why are nickels, dimes, and quarters not considered? And why only when found, not when
given or received?” Perhaps it is because a found penny is the universe conspiring on our behalf, sending us a little message that it is
rooting for us; giving us a starting point, a building block. Of course, we’ve still got to do the hard work to build it into something that
matters, but the opportunity; the possibility; the potential is there. There for anyone who might find that little penny. For those who keep
their eyes open to something special turning up. To wonder and to dream and, most of all, to do. “That,” Tomorrow decided, “is what a
penny truly represents: a starting point to anything. And anyone who should come upon that is very lucky indeed.
(Of course, Tomorrow reckons, a penny given is the universe by proxy and is, therefore, just as lucky as a penny found.)
